John T. Flaxel, M.D.

John T. Flaxel, M.D. was born in 1936 in North Bend and was raised and went to school in North Bend.  He attended the University of Oregon in Eugene (B.A. in Chemistry 1958) and the University of Oregon Medical School (M.S. Pathology 1962, M.D. 1963).  After internship at the University of Chicago, he served in the Army Medical Corps for 2 years and then completed his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in 1969.  He remained on faculty for one year before returning to North Bend in 1970 to establish private practice.

Dr. Flaxel and his wife, Joy, have six grown children, spoiled grandchildren, and live in Glasgow.  Family interests include hunting, skiing, golfing and sports.

Professionally he is very active in the American Academy of Ophthalmology as a developer and director of its professional liability and group insurance programs and in Rotary Medical Eye Projects in Ecuador.
